Waiting on Wednesday #32: Scorched by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, it spotlilghts upcoming releases that we are dying to read.

This week my WoW is ... Scorched by Jennifer L. Armentrout!

Jennifer L. Armentrout (also known as J. Lynn), New York Times bestselling author of the Wait for You series, presents her latest book, Scorched.

Sometimes life leaves a mark...

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge, and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock-bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after...

Release Week Blitz: Excerpt & Giveaway: Fall With Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout

We are so excited to bring you the Release Week Blitz for Jennifer L. Armentrout's, also known as J. Lynn’s, FALL WITH ME!! FALL WITH ME is a New Adult Contemporary Romance and is a part of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Wait For You Series, published by Avon Romance. We love this series and can't wait to start reading Roxy and Reece's story!

FALL WITH ME Synopsis:

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Excerpt:
Someone—was it Melvin?—catcalled as Reece led me down the hall, and my cheeks flushed. “Okay, heman, I can walk all by my little self.”
He cast a look over his shoulder at me as he opened the office door. “I’m sure you can.”
Then he pulled me inside.
My gaze flipped to the roses—the roses!—but before I could say a word, he closed the door and my back was pressed against it, his hands planted on either side of my head and his face right in mine. Like right there, within kissing distance.
Wow.
“So, I was at my father’s place in New Jersey most of the day, and you know, he lives out near the Pine Barrens, so service is shit.”
I nodded even though I really wasn’t processing what he was saying as I was too busy staring at his mouth. Those lips, fuller on the bottom, drove me to distraction.
“I pull out of his driveway and I have all these messages from Dennis,” he continued, and I finally caught on to what he was talking about. “I honestly thought he was messing with me at first.”
I cringed. “He . . . um, he wasn’t.”
He shot me a bland look. “That much I figured out.” His hands slid on the door, stopping just shy of touching my shoulders. “What did he do to you?”
“What?” I blinked.
“What did that bastard do to make you throw a book through his windshield?”
Oh. Oh. My heart was now wiggling along with my stomach. “He really didn’t do anything. I just lost my cool. He wanted to talk to me, and I didn’t want to talk to him.”
“You don’t have to talk to him.”
“That’s what Dennis said, but I shouldn’t have damaged his car.”
A muscle flexed along his right jaw. “That’s true.” He shook his head. “Damn, Roxy, can’t say I’m surprised.”
My brows flew up. “You’re not?”
He laughed under his breath. “Babe, you’ve always had a hell of a temper on you.”
Ah, that was kind of true. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
Reece cocked his head to the side. “A sexy thing, but vandalism and destruction of property doesn’t look good on you, sweets.”
“No. It doesn’t match my manicure.” I raised my hands, flashing him the blue nails.
He laughed again and then he sobered up, just like that. Cop Face was on, and yeah . . . the low coiling in my stomach told me I found Cop Face arousing. “You’re lucky. He could’ve pressed charges, and this conversation would be going in a whole different direction.”
My own half smile slipped off my face. “I know. It’s . . . I was just with Charlie, and he’s . . .” Unable to continue, I forced a casual shrug I didn’t feel. “What are you going to do with me?”
His lips parted as his chest rose with a deep breath, then his gaze dropped to my mouth, and his expression tightened. He looked . . . he looked hungry. “I have lots of ideas.”

Release Day & Giveaway: The Return by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Return - Cover
The Fates are cackling their bony asses off...

It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He's got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Excerpt:
I was a half-blood, but I was also the Apollyon, a child of a pure and a half, a union that had been forbidden for thousands of years because an Apollyon was more powerful than any pure or half could ever hope to be.

And I always got to the traitors’ hideouts before they did, so the Sentinels were usually left with the cleanup, which I was sure absolutely thrilled them.

The first to enter was a female half-blood dressed just as I was. Her black hair was pulled back in a neat little knot at the top of her head. She was older, probably in her mid-thirties. It was pretty rare for a Sentinel to live that long. Her dark skin paled as she stopped just inside the entrance. She clenched titanium daggers in her hands like she expected something vicious to pop out from under the bloody mess.

The female Sentinel tipped her chin up, and the overhead light sliced across her broad cheekbones. She bore a jagged scar under her right eye, the skin lighter in tone. She saw me and froze.

My smile widened.

Behind her, another Sentinel rushed in, almost mowing her over. He saw me and whispered, “Seth.”

He’d said my name like I was the monster under his bed, and I sort of liked that. Then another Sentinel and another rolled in. The fifth took one look at my interior design work and keeled over. Slamming his hands on his knees, he hurled up his dinner.

Nice.

Our society existed completely unknown to the average mortal and had operated under what was known as the Breed Order for thousands of years. The Order had been dismantled, which meant halfs were no longer forced to choose between becoming Sentinels—hunting down violent creatures, protecting pures, enforcing laws, and otherwise usually dying pretty damn quickly on the job—or servants, which was a job that really wasn’t a job, but more like slavery. Since then, many pampered pures had signed on to be Sentinels, making up for the loss of the halfs who’d pretty much said “screw this shit, I’m out.”

This wasn’t necessarily a good thing.

For example, the dumbass puking all over my blood-covered floor was a pure. When he straightened, his face a greenish hue, he backed away, shaking his head. “I can’t,” he gasped out. “I can’t do this.”

Then he turned and hauled ass out the doors.
I sighed. This was why we couldn’t have nice things.

If you've read JLA's Covenant series, then you have probably already pre-ordered this book and are anxiously awaiting it arrival on your e-reader. JUST LIKE ME. Lucky for us, we have less than 2 weeks to wait for more SETH! And this is the first book in the new series so, yeah, to say I'm freaking out is a slight understatement.

Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.

1. The Pact by Karina Halle
Okay, this book was only released a few weeks ago, but it's done really well, gotten on all kinds of best seller lists already (yay KH, congrats!!) It's at the top of my TBR!

2. Come to Me Quietly by A.L. Jackson
This book has been on my TBR since it came out (a year ago) but it's one of those I just haven't had the chance to get to, which sucks because I've heard awesome things about it. This book will be read before 2015 is over!

3. Darkness and Smiley by Laurann Dohner

These two books were on another list of mine, but I still haven't read them! Shame on me. I've been waiting for Darkness' book for what feels like forever, and SMILEY everybody's favorite primate species! Ugh, I can't believe I still haven't read either of these. I will get to it. THIS MONTH.

4. Sugar Rush by Belle Aurora
What's wrong with me? I love this series, and after devouring the first three books in this series I was so freaking happy when this released, and I did read the first three chapters I think. And I loved it but I set it down and haven't picked it back up yet. I will, I need to finish Max and Helena's story!

5. The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons
This is another book that I started and loved but set down and haven't gotten back to. I mean, mythology, medusa, what more could you ask for?

6. Tied by Emma Chase
*ducks* I know I don't have any excuse as to why I haven't read this book yet other than I don't want this series to end. I won't read it until I'm ready to let these characters go, which may be never! So there!

7. Indebted by Pepper Winters
I haven't read any of the books yet in this series because I suck at waiting. And Pepper has said there will be 6 (I think) books in all and I just don't think my heart can take the wait in-between books! The first two book are waiting on my e-reader for me, so when the final book is published, I'm going to dive in and binge-read the lot of them!

8. Losing Control and Taking Control by Jen Frederick

"Kelly, what's wrong with you? You haven't read these books? We can't be friends." is what I imagine people will be saying to me. I love Jen Frederick. I've read all of her books besides these! Why you ask? I don't have a good answer. Other than I was waiting for the second book to come out before I started (it's a two book series). But now that they're both out, what excuse do I have? None. Okay, I'll go read these now :D

9. Burned by Tara Sivec
Well I love Tara's Chocolate Lovers series and her Chocoholics series and her Playing with Fire series and her Fool Me Once series, OKAY I love everything Tara writes so it's a no brainer that I'll read her Ignite series (the second book Branded was just released!)

10. Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I'm a total JLA fangirl. I've read all of her stuff and when I found out she was writing a NA PNR? devoured this book yet? It was only released last month! Give a girl a break!

So, these are my top ten 2014 releases I meant to read but didn't get to, what are yours?

**for the record I've purchased all of these books and they're sitting on my TBR shelf with puppy dog eyes waiting to be read**
