April Favorites

I read 25 books in the month of April and these are my standouts...

1. Archangel's Heart by Nalini Singh
I don't know why the hell I waited so long to read this, maybe I was saving it to get me out of a reading slump (which is what it ended up doing). I love this series. If I had to choose between this and Nalini's Psy-Changeling series I honestly don't know if I could, that's how good she writes. If you haven't checked out any of her books I suggest you start!

2. Midnight Target by Elle Kennedy
This was the finale of Elle's Killer Instincts series and while she may be known more for her Off Campus series, THIS is my favorite series she's ever written. This will go down as one of my all-time favorite romantic suspense series because not only are the men badass mercenaries, the women are badass assassins as well! Now that the series is compete it is one that you can binge and fall in love with characters you'll never forget.

3. Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book (which isn't out until June boo) and it was classic Jill Shalvis. You get a hilarious cast of characters combined with the quirky goings on of a small town which equals success in my book. I will be reading Jill Shalvis books until the day I die.

4. Shacking Up by Helena Hunting
This is probably my favorite Helena Hunting book since Pucked came out. It was hilarious and romantic with a dash of angst. Another ARC that I received that will be out at the end of May and definitely worth picking up if you love HH books!

5. The Cad and the Co-Ed by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid
I've loved all the books in the series thus far and this one certainly didn't disappoint. This duo of authors manages to write hilarious books with sweet and sexy romances that have real life problems and you keep wanting more. Looking forward to more stories by these two authors.

6. Silver Silence by Nalini Singh
Sorry! I had to throw this one in here. When I got approved for this ARC I might have thrown out my back doing a happy dance. I don't want to give too much away because I'll have a review closer to the pub date but I loved the new cast of characters we got and I might have to read it again next month because it was that good.

Release Tour: Excerpt & Giveaway: Pucked Off by Helena Hunting

Pucked Off, an all-new emotional and sexy STANDALONE from Helena Hunting is LIVE!!
Pucked Off by Helena Hunting
Genre: Contemporary Romance

***A Standalone novel in The Pucked Series***

I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance."

I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.

Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.

I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.

At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.

I shouldn’t want her.

But I do.

I should leave her alone.

But I won’t.

Excerpt:

Armed with my clipboard, I walk down the hall to the waiting room. Lance is impossible to miss. Despite the fact that he’s wearing a sweatshirt and the hood is covering half of his face, he’s more than six feet of broad, hockey-playing man.
He’s so wide his shoulders encroach on the chairs on either side, which would explain why no one is sitting next to him. He’s slouched down so his head rests on the back of the chair, and his hands are clasped in his lap, a baseball cap hanging off one knee. His lips, plush and soft—I know since I’ve had them on mine; it might have been a decade ago, but I remember it clearly—are parted. He looks like he’s asleep.
I clear my throat. “Lance Romero?”
He doesn’t move.
Bernadette, the receptionist, gives me a meaningful look.
I clear my throat again and call his name a second time. He jolts awake and the hood falls back, exposing his face. It’s not in good shape. He has a black eye and bruises on his left cheek. There’s a fly bandage across one eyebrow.
Sadly, he’s still hot.
He blinks a few times, yawns, and smacks his lips, his tongue touching the split in the bottom one. His gaze sweeps the room and finally lands on me. Heat explodes in my cheeks and courses through my limbs, warming me from the inside out as he starts at my sneaker-clad feet and roams up over my yoga pants to my company-issued T-shirt before stopping at my face. I can’t look directly at him for more than a couple of seconds. I sincerely hope he doesn’t remember me. I cannot go there and also be professional.
I’m sure the smile he gives me has melted many a panty off a slutty bunny. Mine stay right where they’re supposed to, wedged up my ass.
I force a polite, professional veneer. “I’m ready for you now.”

Excerpt:

I’ve agreed to go out with Lance. On a date. Two actually. I don’t even know what to think. I grab my purse and slip into my jacket. As fall settles in and the temperature drops, layers are becoming necessary.
When I return, Lance is standing at the desk, checking his phone. He’s smiling.
“Ready to go,” I say.
He hits a couple of buttons, pockets his phone, and turns that grin on me. “Cool.”
I lock up the clinic, and Lance walks me across the lot. This time he doesn’t leave the usual space between us, and the back of his hand grazes my hip.
I’m nervous when we reach my car. His Hummer is parked right behind my Mini this time. I adjust the strap of my purse and look up at him. Strangely, he looks as nervous as me.
He scans my face and takes a small step closer. I can see his hand lifting in my peripheral vision. My hair is in a ponytail, which is sitting on my shoulder. He fingers the end of it.
“Why do I always want to pull this?”
I don’t have the opportunity to answer, because he drops his head and his lips skim my cheek.
“I want to kiss you.”
“You just did,” I whisper.
“I want do it again, but here.” His thumb touches my bottom lip.
“Oh.”
He’s so close. His lips almost touching mine as he asks, “Can I do that?”
“Yes, please.”
His lids grow heavy, and he kisses the corner of my mouth. Lance strokes my cheek and rests his palm on the side of my neck. The other hand skims the length of my arm until he reaches my fingertips.
He leans back a little, and for a second I think it’s over before it’s even begun, but he takes my hand in his. Uncurling my fingers, he lifts it and presses my palm against his cheek. A full-body tremor runs through him, and his eyes drift closed. He turns his head toward my palm, and I smooth my thumb along the contour of his bottom lip. A deep sound comes from the back of his throat, making my skin prickle and heat blossom in my belly.
When he opens his eyes again, the fire in them matches the heat flooding my entire body. “Can you keep yer hand right here?”
“If you want me to, yes.”
“I definitely do.”
He leans in and brushes his lips over mine again. It’s soft and warm. The next time he takes my bottom lip between his, he releases it slowly, and then does the same with the top one. When his tongue flicks out, I might whimper. Light fingers cup my head, and I tilt it back farther.
I part my lips, and his tongue sweeps my mouth. His groan is low, sending a shiver down my spine. He drops the hand that’s keeping mine pressed against his cheek. His arm winds around my waist, and he pulls me in tight against him.
I expect the kiss to grow in intensity. It doesn’t, though I can feel the heat building inside me. That feeling I’ve been searching for all these years is finally back.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Best Books I Read In 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.
This week's TTT is Top Ten Best Books I Read In 2015

1. Beyond Innocence by Kit Rocha. This is the sixth (!!!!) book in the Beyond series and it's the one we've all been waiting for. Jared! And let me tell you, this book lived up to my expectations. If you haven't read this series yet, you might want to get on that before Beyond Ruin is released because that's going to be one hell of a book!

2. Claimed by Elle Kennedy. Claimed is the first book in Elle's new Outlaws series and she started off with a bang. It's a post-apocolypitc world filled with complete awesomeness. Addicted will be out in June of next year and I'll be reading that book at 12:01 on release day for sure!

3. Burn by Suzanne Wright. This author can do no wrong in my eyes. Most of her books are paranormal romance and Burn was just one example of why she's so awesome. She writes these characters that get books all the time (vampires, shifters, demons) but she writes them all with a twist, it's like you're reading about a whole new species every time. Honestly I could have picked any book she released this year because they were all awesome.

4. Sustained by Emma Chase. This book is the second in The Legal Briefs series and it was for sure my favorite. We get Jake and Chelsea's story and I think the best part was not only watching Jake and Chelsea fall in love, but watching Jake fall in love with the kids as well. I can't wait to see what Emma writes next!

5. Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley. Okay, a Kristen Ashley book on my Top Ten list. No surprise there! But this book was the fourth in the Chaos series and it might just be my favorite. If I'm honest, I could have picked any book Ms. Ashley wrote this year because I loved them all but the Chaos boys have a special place in my heart.

6. The Duet by R.S. Grey. Okay, I know this book wasn't released in 2015 but in my defense this was my first book by R.S. Grey and it's what made me fall in love with her writing! Her wit and humor and romance completely won me over and she went on my auto-buy list.

7. Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole. Kresley's Immortals After Dark series will always be one of my all-time favorites. The cast of characters she's written into this crazy world filled with every kind of mythological creature you can think of are most definitely my favorites. This series needs to go on for another 40 books and maybe I'll be satisfied.

8. Truth or Beard by Penny Reid. I love Penny Reid! She's definitely one of my favorite authors and choosing just one of her books from this year was hard But the Winston brothers have a special place in my heart and Beau and Jessica's story was everything I wanted. I can't wait for the upcoming books in this series!

9. Pucked by Helena Hunting. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard as I did when I read this book for the first time. (yes, first time, because even though I read it in March, I had to read it again in October just because I couldn't help myself) The third book in this series releases early next year and I'm counting down the days!

10. Chase Me by Tessa Bailey. I absolutely loved this book. It's a short book so I read it in an afternoon and I wished it was 400 pages longer. All three books in this series are now published and while I loved them all, Louis and Roxy are most definitely my hashtag-relationship-goals.

THAT WAS SO HARD. But they're my Top Ten Best Books I Read in 2015. What are yours?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.

1. BEAUTY AWAKENED by GENA SHOWALTER
I loved the first book in this series, and Beauty Awakened has been on my TBR for years. Gena Showalter does PNR like nobody else.

2. THE GAME PLAN by R.L. MATHEWSON
So, The Game Plan won't be published until December 27, and unless Santa can bribe R.L. Mathewson, I won't be getting this book in time for Christmas. BUT I love the hell out of this series and I'm looking forward to escaping my crazy family to read this book during the holidays.

3. RIVAL by PENELOPE DOUGLAS
I can't believe I haven't read Rival yet. Madoc's story has been a long time coming and I really need to read this before Falling Away is released in January! (and these covers are seriously yum)

4. DARKNESS & SMILEY by LAURANN DOHNER

So the New Species series is kind of my dirty little secret and I haven't gotten to Darkness OR Smiley yet. I will definitely binge read these two books when I get some free time!

5. CAGED IN WINTER by BRIGHTON WALSH
I've heard nothing but great things about this book (and author) and the second book in this series will be released next year so I'll have to get to this before Tess Ever After.

6. BECOMING CALDER by MIA SHERIDAN
I need to read this book. I know I've only read one Mia Sheridan book but it turned out to be one of my favorites of the year. This is the first in a duology that was released earlier this year and it sounds amazing.

7. FILTHY BEAUTIFUL LIES by KENDALL RYAN
I LOVE KENDALL RYAN! This is the first book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series. If these sizzling covers don't make you want to read this series then we can't be friends.

8. IT AIN'T ME, BABE by TILLIE COLE
It's no secret that I have serious love for MC books. The second book in this series Heart Recaptured was just released so I need to read this one pronto!

9. WICKED by JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUT
Jennifer L. Armentrout, J. Lynn. LE SIGH. I love your books. I've read almost all of them and a new adult PNR? O-FREAKING-KAY! I have it on good authority that santa will be bringing me this book on Christmas morning :)

10. THE LIBRARIAN PRINCIPLE by HENELA HUNTING
I loved Helena's Clipped Wings series and finding out that she was writing a librarian/principle romance? I'm in! If you haven't you should read the blurb it sounds so good!

So, these are my top ten books I wouldn't mind santa bringing me this year, what are yours?
